How to start?

• Meet with us, sign contract, pay One time Charge (security deposit and Setup and registration), and Notarized your application.

• Provide a certificate of insurance showing a minimum of $1,000,000 commercial general liability insurance listing us as additional insured.
  Flip Food liability insurance 

•  Ensure that at least one person on your team holds a Food Manager certification. This individual will be responsible for meeting with the Health Inspector. Complete the Texas Food Manager Course online before submitting your application to the Health Department.

• Fill out the following Austin Health Department application. Approximately two weeks later, you will receive a call to schedule an inspection in the kitchen. During the meeting, the inspector will ask what you are cooking and who you are serving. He does not need you to cook or show ingredients. At the end of the interview, he will issue you a permit.

• Application for a Food Enterprise Permit
  This is the permit issued by the Austin Health Department to operate a food business.  After issued, copy need to be provided to us.
  In most case you should apply as Food Service.   Food Product Manufacturer is very restrictive and complicated.
  
  

•         Answers to application question:

•                8. Square footage:   1600

•                9. Potable water provider:   District #17

•               10. Wastewater disposable provider:  Septic 

• Request for Change of Ownership Inspection
  This requests the Austin Health Department to do the pre-opening inspection at our facility. 
  Should be submitted with Application for a Food Enterprise Permit.

  Business in the state of Texas must pay sale tax.  Apply for permit in person or by using web site

  If you register with the Austin Health Department as Food Product Manufacture you must register with FDA.
  This is expensive and complicated process, in most situation this is not needed, and you should explore Food Service option.
